Using this ureteroscope, the surgeon can see, inspect and treat problems of the ureter and kidney, such as kidney stones. The service quickly became the busiest in the world before ureteroscopy became the standard of care. St. Joseph’s continues to house one of only two lithotripsy machines in the province, which is used to treat about 500 patients a year with kidney stones.
